A PLANNING application has been submitted for permission to demolish the former Royal British Legion Club in Ackers Road, Stockton Heath.
The dilapidated building stands near to Stockton Heath Fire Station – and the application to demolish it has been submitted by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire chiefs say the single-storey timber building is in a poor condition and demolition is required to prevent fly-tipping, vandalism and to make the site secure.
There are no plans to alter the hard-standing which surrounds the building, nor to build anything else on the site.
The Royal British Legion Club closed more than 10 years ago and Stockton Heath Parish Council set up a working party to consider ways of bringing it back into community use as the village had no community centre.
The building continued in use for a while as a pub – named “The Stansfield” in memory of the late Mike Stansfield (pictured above), a long-standing local parish councillor.
But this too closed and the building has stood empty ever since.
