Things to do during the half-term holidays

AUTUMN half-term is upon us and the weather has, so far, been ok apart from the blustery weekend.

There’s lots of activities in Warrington for children and families to enjoy during the break which is staggered over two weeks depending which school you attend!
Warrington Museum is hosting a craft activity involving Mandalas on Friday between 10-3pm.
For members of Warrington Youth Zone, Holiday Club is taking place for seven to 12-year-olds.
Sessions run from 8am to 6pm and cost £20, which includes breakfast and lunch plus snacks during the day.

There are numerous parks and open spaces for families to enjoy.

Risley Moss is a popular wetland nature reserve with moss land and peat bog habitats. It’s a wildlife Site of Special Scientific Interest.
It features bird hides, park art and sculpture and a visitors centre. There are woodland walks and picnic benches. It’s located in Ordnance Avenue, Birchwood.
The facilities are open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm (closed on Fridays.) Weekend opening hours are 9am to 5pm.

Sankey Valley Park is a great space for families with its wildlife such as swans gliding along the non-navigable canal.
There are play areas, park art and sculptures, picnic benches and car parking. The Sankey Canal is available for all day fishing.
Rixton Claypits are woodland and meadows which are a haven for wildlife. The Great Crested Newt can be spotted there.
The Site of Special Scientific Interest has a visitor centre, toilets and car park open subject to staff availability. There are woodland and meadow walks to enjoy the colours of autumn.
Spooky World in Stretton has fun for families during the daytime and then for older children and teens during the night features attractions for those aged 10 to 14.
Activities include inflatable drop slides, kids archery, a hay bale hill, spooky trailer ride and mini digger. There’s a zip wire, too.
Day tickets cost £15 for adults and children but children under 90cm tall get in free.

The enduringly popular Primrose Hill Nurseries at High Legh, near Lymm, has a pumpkin patch where families can pick their own.
There’s a Halloween trail and carve and paint your own pumpkins. Primrose Hill has children’s entertainment and photo opportunities, a cafe and car park.
It’s open every day from 10am to 4pm with additional activities on half-term and weekends.
For theme park fans, Gulliver’s World Theme Park Resort in Shackleton Close, Warrington, has advance tickets available from £24 if booked more than two days in advance. Children under 90cm tall go free.
A fireworks display takes place on November 2 as the theme park is open from 12pm to 7:30pm, with families enjoying the rides and attractions ahead of the fireworks.
The park feature more than 50 rides and the 2023 addition of Gulliver’s Gears, two car themed rides.
