AN inquest into the death of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey has today (Wednesday) opened in Warrington.
The Birchwood teenager died in a “frenzied” and “sadistic” knife attack planned by schoolmate Scarlett Jenkinson and her friend Eddie Ratcliffe after meeting up in a Culcheth Park in February 2023. Both were jailed for life for murder.
The inquest will hear the details surrounding the murder and examine details, including whether Jenkinson should have been placed at Birchwood High School with vulnerable Brianna following her ‘managed transfer’ from Culcheth High School following a cannabis related incident.
A safeguarding review in August found that Jenkinson was not seen as a serious risk.

Brianna Ghey’s killers
Jenkinson, was given a minimum term of 22 years before parole.
