BIRCHWOOD Station was closed this morning (Monday) following reports of serious incident involving a casualty on the track.
Police and emergency services attended at the scene early this morning as train services were cancelled.
Services between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central were impacted.
National Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.
“Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted until approximately 09:00.”
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Birchwood station at around 6.10am this morning, Monday 21 October, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The station has now reopened.
