A WARRINGTON high school closed early today after an anonymous threat was received this morning.

Great Sankey High School sent pupils home – and police confirmed that officers had gone to the school.

But they stressed that there was no need for any concern in the wider community or at other schools.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Unfortunately, we have been given no choice other than to close the school for the rest of the day while the police investigate an incident.
“We will communicate plans for tomorrow later today, as well as for the sixth form open evening and a year seven meet the tutor event.
“We will be letting students leave, a year group at a time.

“If for whatever reason your child cannot be allowed to go home, please let your child know by text and ask them to make a member of staff aware.
“I understand this is an inconvenience and I apologise, but this is in the best interests of the school community.”
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Police attended at Great Sankey High School, Warrington, in relation to an anonymous threat that had been received.
“Following the reports, a decision has been taken by the school to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
“Enquiries remain ongoing, and there is no need for any concern in the wider community or at nearby schools in relation to this.”
