Pupils enjoy Titanic Experience Day

YEAR 2 class pupils from Meadowside CP School in Orford, Warrington, took part in a Titanic Experience Day when their classroom was transformed into the ill-fated ship.

Children dressed up for the part in either first class or third class outfits and were given tickets to board the ship.

Warrington has a little known link to the Titanic as Captian Smith married Sarah Eleanor Pennington at St Oswald’s Church, Winwick. Sarah was from a well-established Warrington family who had worked Woodhead Farm at Winwick for four generations. It has also been reported that the couple began married life at Spar Well Cottage in Delph Lane, Winwick!

The day was filled with activities including ballroom dancing, barn dancing, letter writing and food tasting. Teacher Miss Forster said: “The children had a fantastic day and immersed themselves in the tragic story of the Titanic.”
The children really enjoyed the day and were able to share the experiences with the wider school.

Head teacher Mrs Curtis commented: “The children have had a day that they will remember forever! It was wonderful to see the children making history come to life and it certainly caused a buzz around Meadowside.”
