A YOUTHFUL Latchford Albion fell to an agonising 7-6 defeat at Heysham when a drop goal proved the difference between to competitive teams.

On a very heavy pitch, free-flowing rugby was never an option, and the hosts edged ahead with a converted try.
A drop goal gave Heysham a crucial two score advantage and despite Ben Harper’s try, converted by Nathan Bond, Albion could not find a way through a resilient Heysham defence who held on for victory.

Despite the defeat, coach Martyn Ellis saw plenty of positives.
He said: We turned up today with six of our under 18’s stepping up to open age and we gave them a real good go, and we were so close to turning this loss into a win.
“Within our 17 man squad we had nine players who have played less than 10 games for the club but not one of them looked out of place. It gives us great confidence knowing that we have a great system in place for the development of players moving forward who can complete at this level.”
This Saturday ( April 20 sees Latchford host Ashton Bears at the ASICS Victoria Park Arena, kick off 2.30pm.
