Police appeal to catch men who targeted elderly woman at cash machine features on Crimewatch

A POLICE appeal to catch two men who targeted a vulnerable elderly woman at a cash machine in Warrington town centre featured on Crimewatch live this morning.

Warrington officer PC Fairhurst on BBC Crimewatch was appealing in relation to a theft from an elderly female at an ATM in Warrington Town Centre on Saturday 24th February 2024.

At around 1.30pm on Saturday 24 February an elderly woman attended a branch of Halifax Bank, on Buttermarket Street, Warrington, and attempted to withdraw money from a cashpoint outside.

During the transaction at the cashpoint, the woman’s cash card was not returned, and she was then approached by an unknown man who had been loitering with another man nearby. He advised the woman that the cash machine was not working and to raise this issue inside bank.

Once the elderly woman entered the bank, the man approached the cash machine and successfully obtained her card. This has been used to obtain £800 from her account.

He, along with the second man, then left the area on foot in the direction of Golden Square.

Enquiries are currently ongoing and officers have released a CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.
