Lane closures on M62 at Birchwood as police deploy tactics to stop electric car unable to brake due to fault

TWO lanes of the M62 at Birchwood had to be closed by motorway police as special tactics were deployed to stop an electric car which couldn’t stop due to an electrical fault.

Police closed lane 3 and 4 on the M62 eastbound J11 to 12 near Birchwood.

It was following the use of tactics to stop the electric car with an electric fault where the driver was unable to brake.

Motorway officers from Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester Police brought the vehicle to a safe stop.

The incident happened at around 2.15pm on Wednesday afternoon when police were contacted by the driver of the Jaguar I-Pace who reported a fault with his vehicle.

The driver told officers he was unable to brake as he was travelling on the M58 in Merseyside. Motorway police attended and escorted the vehicle onto the M57 and then onto the M62 eastbound through Warrington, where it was safely brought to a stop at around 2.40 pm between junction 10, Croft, and junction 11, Birchwood.

Long traffic delays were reported in the area as two lanes were closed while police brought the vehicle to a stop.
