Specialist dive team called in after issues identified with water level controls at Lymm Dam

AN urgent investigation is underway after issues were identified with the water level control valves in Lymm Dam.

A specialist Contractor has been appointed by Warrington Borough Council to undertake urgent investigation and assessment of all valves. Works will require an underwater dive team and a significant amount of equipment.

To ensure site safety, it will be necessary to implement a footway and lane closure on Church Road. Half of the length of the lay by will also be closed. Temporary traffic light control will be in operation between 8:00a.m and 6:00pm Monday to Friday. A temporary pedestrian crossing will be provided.
Temporary traffic lights will be removed at the end of each working shift and the footway will be opened. Unfortunately, the lay by will remain closed overnight for the duration of the works to prevent early parking and obstruction of operations.
Works are currently scheduled to start on Monday 11 March 2024. However, the start date may need to be moved at short notice to 18th March 2024 in the event the dive team are called to an emergency. Five days have been allowed to complete works.
Local Cllr Graham Gowland commented: “The water control systems at the dam are important for keeping the water levels correct, and needing urgent work is a concern, but it’s good to hear the team have jumped on this, with works planned in the next week. There will be a lot of disruption caused by the closures on Church Road, but we’ll try to minimise the impact.”
