CHILDREN and families in Great Sankey can look forward to plenty of fun days ahead thanks to the completion of a project to revamp the Alconbury Close playground.
An investment of more than £40,000, provided by Warrington Borough Council, has breathed new life into the playground, transforming it from a tiny pocket park with limited play value into an exciting new space.
The playground is now fully equipped with a range of fantastic play equipment aimed at children aged 2-8, including a mini swing, elephant springy, spinning turnstile and ‘toddler express’ train.
Children are also able to enjoy using a sign language play panel and communicate with each other across the play area using ‘talking mobile phones.’
Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright, and Great Sankey South ward councillor, Mo Hussein, who has supported the project, joined local children to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished playground.
Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for leisure and communities, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “It’s so important for young people to have good quality outdoor play facilities, and the new-look Alconbury Close playground will certainly provide that. It’s a fantastic asset for the community, providing an excellent environment for children to get active and have fun.
“I’m delighted the refurbished playground is now officially open. I’m sure it will bring happiness to young people and their families for many years to come.”
Cllr Mo Hussein added: “It’s fantastic news that work is now complete on the new and improved Alconbury Close playground. It’s an important project for the community, and will bring health, social and wellbeing benefits to local children and families.
“This is a project I have been closely involved in from the start, so it’s wonderful to see the revamped playground now open for everyone to enjoy.”
The project was delivered by contractor Wicksteeds Leisure.
