Met Office issue Yellow weather warning for snow on Thursday night

THE Met Office has today issued a Yellow Weather warning for snow for the North West of England, including Warrington, on Thursday night as a cold snap is set to return.

It follows snow earlier in January and December last year which brought wintery scenes to the town.

A Yellow weather warning for snow means:
There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off by snow
There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel

Weather forecast for Warrington this week:
Today:
Early bright or sunny spells for some today, especially in southern parts of the region. Otherwise, another cloudy and mild day with patchy drizzle, this mostly over the hills. Staying windy with gales possible in places. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:
Staying mainly cloudy although clear periods across Cheshire and Merseyside at times. Occasional drizzle over the hills before more persistent rain arrives across Cumbria overnight. Windy with coastal gales. Mild. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday:
Rain, heavy at times will continue moving south across the region, possibly turning wintry over the highest ground on its back edge. Winds becoming much lighter and turning colder. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
A frosty start on Wednesday, then largely dry and bright. An uncertain end to the week but probably unsettled and cold with some rain and snow, perhaps disruptive in places.
