LAST Saturday Warrington Rylands were celebrating coming from 2 goals behind to snatch a draw at Workington this week they are shaking their heads trying to work out how they surrendered a 2 goal lead allowing Basford United to claim an unlikely point.

Rylands were in control of the game having gone 2-0 up in the 67th minute only to concede 2 goals which left manager Michael Clegg “upset and hurt” as he “just didn’t see it coming”.
Having the best of the first-half chances with Basford goalkeeper Kieran Preston making several saves to keep the visitors at bay, Rylands took the lead in the final minute of the first half when Mo Touray converted from the penalty spot after Adama Sidibeh had been brought down Preston as the pair pounced on a sloppy back pass.

The second half saw the home side come more into the game and almost drew level when a lack of communication almost saw Clive Smith put the ball in his own net, but it rolled wide for a corner.

Rylands doubled their advantage in the 67th minute when a brilliant set piece routine from a short corner saw an unanswered reverse pass meet Joe Adams and his shot from a tight angle gave Preston little chance.

Basford pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, and it came in the 76th minute when Rylands had difficulty clearing a corner from a packed penalty area. The ball fell to Mason Frizelle who turned and fired the loose ball home into the far corner to curl the deficit. A deficit which was rubbed out five minutes later as Prince Mancinelli struck a loose ball into the top corner of the Rylands net.
Both sides had chances to snatch the win in the closing minutes but both had to settle from a daw, in Rylands case for the 11th time this season leaving Clegg to say “we need to find a way of getting on the other side of these draws”.
