VIDEO: AGED just 34 and “looking like one of the players,” Sam Burgess is set to be an inspirational coach with Warrington Wolves says the club’s deputy Chairman Prof. Steven Broomhead.
While admitting Warrington Wolves had taken a gamble to appoint a young untested coach, Broomhead says it is a “genuine fresh start” at the club which parted company with Daryl Powell after a difficult couple of seasons.
Broomhead said: “Sam Burgess had a tremendous track record as a player and my early meetings and dealings with him I think he is going to be an inspirational coach. I think we are looking forward to an excellent year.
“He has brought in some of his own new players with a good mix of older seasoned players and younger talent coming through.
“I think with the retention of Richard Marshall and Gary Chambers and Martin Gleeson joining us we have a real good top team.
“There is a genuinely positive spirit amongst the players and the club and memberships are selling well.”
During a pre-season video interview, Broomhead also talked about the financial pressures facing Rugby League with sponsorship from Sky Sports dropping from £40m 10 years ago to £21m for the season ahead.
