Good Neighbours deliver Christmas joy across Warrington

AN army of volunteer good neighbours, including Santa, delivered some festive magic to the lonely across Warrington.

Around 30 ‘Good Neighbour’ volunteers handed out about 100 presents and cards on Christmas Day to bring some yuletide joy to those in need.

The Good Neighbours initiative runs year-round to support people who are feeling lonely or socially isolated, with kind hearts offering weekly visits for a chat over a brew, a short walk or going along to a local community group together.

Volunteer helpers

Warrington Voluntary Action’s Operations Lead, Jordan Johnson, revealed: “Our Good Neighbours team has been reaching out to gather small gifts for the people we support. A big thank you to everyone who helped us. The donated gifts have all been delivered by volunteers providing connection and a little bit of Christmas cheer during the festive season. Even Santa joined in the fun on such a busy day for him!
“The contributions helped make a significant impact on the lives of these individuals by reminding them they are not alone, and their community cares for them.”
Puzzle and reading books, scarves, hats and gloves plus confectionery and toiletry gift sets and jigsaw puzzles were some of the many items donated.
Jordan emphasised: “This was a great opportunity to come together as a community, with friends, family, or colleagues and show our neighbours that we care.”
She concluded: “Christmas is a magical time but it’s also a challenging time for some people too. If we can make more people smile, then it’s all been worthwhile. Warrington pulled together and did us proud.”
