Walking Football tournament raises £4,848 for charity

THE Culcheth Cup annual Walking Football tournament resulted in a home win – and also raised an amazing £4,840 for the British Heart Foundation.

Sixteen teams took part in the competition, four from Culcheth, three from Warrington and the rest from all around the North West and North Wales.
Organised by the independent Culcheth Walking Football Group, T he teams – made up of men and women – each played at least three games in their groups, with referees from the Walking Football Assocation officiating.

The top two teams from each group progressed to the quarter finals.
Culcheth’s four teams – the Walkers, the Strollers, the Amblers and the Wanderers.
Two reached the semi-finals but were drawn against each other.
The Strollers won through and then defeated Phoenix, from Warrington, 1-0 in the final.
The event was sponsored by local companies – Edmundson Electrical, Spibey Electrical, www.Heatable.co.uk, Fazackerley’s of Leigh, and www.theCulchethArms.co.uk
Walking football is a growing sport for the over-50s and the Culcheth Group started in 2017 with just seven players.
It now has 56 playing members who meet at 7pm on Tuesday evenings at Culcheth High School.
