A man and woman from Liverpool have been arrested in connection with the murder of “Baby Callum” in Warrington more than 25 years ago.

Detectives investigating the death of the baby, found in a bin bag in woodland at Callands on the day before Mother’s Day in March 1998 have confirmed the arrest of two people in relation to the incident.
The newborn baby had died from suffocation.
A murder investigation was subsequently launched by detectives from Cheshire Police.
On Friday 28 July 2023 detectives arrested a man and a woman from Liverpool in connection with the incident.
Both individuals were arrested on suspicion of murder and have since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Inspector Hannah Friend, of Cheshire Police’s Major Crime Review Team, said: “I understand that this is an extremely emotional case which has attracted a lot of attention over the past twenty-five years, however, I would ask people not to speculate.
“Enquiries remain ongoing, and we will not be releasing further information at this time.”
Callum was the name on a simple cross at Warrington’s Manchester Road cemetery – that was the name detectives gave the tragic baby because his body was found at Callands on the day before Mother’s Day in 1998 by a man out walking his dog. His death certificate refers to him as an “unidentified male.”
Police were able to build up a DNA profile of the baby’s mother.
Tests showed the baby had been suffocated and a major police hunt followed the discovery of the body.
A £30,000 reward was offered and the case was featured in a special television programme.
