DESPITE a valiant performance with plenty of effort, the curtain came down on Warrington Wolves’ season with a 16-8 defeat at St Helens in the play-off eliminator.

In a close encounter, it was 26 minutes before the scoreboard was troubled as the home side opened the scoring through Lewis Dodd with Mark Percival adding the extras.

The only other score of the half was a Percival penalty on 36 minutes with the Wolves going in 8-0 down at the break.

Within three minutes of the re-start, it was game on as Connor Wrench went over in the corner with a brilliant touchline conversion from Stefan Ratchford making it 8-6.
Two minutes later Saints were down to 12 men as Alex Walmsley was sin-binned for a high tackle on Jordy Crowther.
But the only advantage Warrington could take was a Ratchford penalty to level the scores.
With Saints back up to a full complement of players they hit the front again as Tommy Makinson got in at the corner after quick hands and narrowed the angle for Percival to add the extras to make it 14-8.
It became an uphill battle for the Wire as Joe Bullock was sin-binned for a high shot and then Percival added a penalty on 72 minutes to take the game out of reach as the curtain came down on Warrington’s season.
