Autumn fair to help raise funds for Project Linus

AN Autumn Fair is taking place at Padgate Methodist Church helping raise awareness and funds for Project Linus, which provides free knitted blankets for babies and children.

The event takes place at Padgate Methodist Church on Padgate Lane on Saturday, October 14th from 11 am to 2 pm and all are welcome.

There will be an exhibition of handmade quilts and blankets created by members of the charity inspired by the Peanuts character Linus, who always had his treasured comfort blanket.

Jean Dickeson, Coordinator, Project Linus UK, Warrington, said:” Babies and children (birth to 19) receive a stitched patchwork quilt or knitted blanket free of charge and it is theirs to keep. We fundraise to buy the 100% cotton fabric, wadding, threads, wool, labels etc. that we need to be able to make the quilts and blankets. The Autumn Fair is our main fundraiser.
“The name Project Linus UK is from the blanket-toting character in the Peanuts cartoon strip, his creator Schultz was happy for us to use the name.”
As well as the quilts and blankets there will be gifts, cakes and crafts stalls and a raffle with a chance to win a quilt or hamper.

The Warrington branch of Project Linus was launched in 2006 with 12 members. There are now 40 members and a waiting list of people to join.
The group supplies blankets to the special care baby unit at Warrington Hospital and the local Women’s Refuge. They also supply Alderhey Children’s Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital
