WARRINGTON Town bounced back from Saturday’s disappointing defeat thanks to a goal in less than 45 seconds in a 1-0 victory over Buxton on Tuesday evening.

Matty Grivosti was found by Bennett near the edge of the box and drove into the penalty area before firing a shot into the far corner beyond Dearnley in the Buxton goal.

The goal was enough to see the Yellows record their second win of the season after their three opening games and helped bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing 0-2 defeat at home to Blyth Spartans.

Warrington could have doubled their lead on nine minutes when the lively Grivosti escaped down the left channel before pulling the ball back for the unmarked Woods, who scuffed his shot wide from 10 yards out.

On 35 minutes The Yellows almost scored again when Woods combined superbly with Buckley-Ricketts inside the penalty area before stabbing an effort just beyond the far post with Dearnley beaten.

In the second half Warrington probed for an elusive second and on 58 minutes it took a great save from Thompson, who dove down low to his right to parry a powerful free-kick away to protect Town’s slender lead.

On 69 minutes it was Buxcton keeper Dearnley’s turn to make a fine save to turn aside Buckley-Ricketts’ deflected half-volley after excellent work down the right side of the penalty area from Woods initially.

With the clock ticking down Town made their first change of the night with Walker coming on for Woods on 90 minutes.

The final whistle brought a large cheer from the majority in the crowd of 860 as Town held on for three valuable points.
