All set for medieval tradition of Lymm Rushbearing

0

THE ancient medieval tradition of Lymm Rushbearing takes place tomorrow Sunday, August 13, starting at 4pm from the Lower dam in the village centre.

The origins of Rushbearing date from the Middle Ages and Lymm is one of a small number of communities that continue the tradition.

Having died out near the beginning of the 20th century, it was revived in the 1970s by local resident Chris Limb.

The job of replacing rushes on the earthen floor of the church became a festival and in many places (including Lymm) had Morris dancers and music.
This year’s procession starts at the Lower Dam at 4pm on 13th August, followed by a walk up the Dingle and then to St Mary’s church at about 4.30 pm.
There will be morris dancing by Lymm Morris prior to and during the walk.
Watch and walk, and help keep local history alive.
