First ever Winwick Beer Festival a huge success!

THE very first Winwick Beer Festival proved to be a huge success at the weekend helping raise funds for two local community groups.

Organised by local volunteers, the inaugural event was held at Winwick Leisure Centre on Myddleton lane to raise funds for community projects including the local litter network and the village green fingered gardening team.

Hundreds of festival goers sampled fine cask ales with wonderful names like Busman’s Blonde and Squirrel’s Heaven which had a peanut butter taste twist, as well as ciders such as Dirty Harry or Merry Monks.

Over 500 pints and 200 bottles of beer and cider were sold and drinkers were kept entertained by three fantastic musical artists throughout the day and into the late evening.
Guitarist and singer Joe Hindley the Dave Luckhurst Jazz trio and Trax Classic Covers kept the feet tapping whilst the taps kept pouring whilst Double D’s Cafe provided delicious hot food.
Beer Fest Organisers Andy Griffiths, Alan Parkinson, James Herron, Bob Towers, Stuart Mann and Emma Lavender thanked the local community for getting behind the event and promised that there’s more to come in the future.

Emma said: “It’s always nerve wracking organising an event like this for the very first time. Worries like what will the weather be like? will people come along? and MOST importantly have we ordered enough beer? constantly cross your mind but we think it went really, really well and many have already asked when the next one will be.
“We’re only a small group of residents who have become great friends through the community projects we do together for the good of the beautiful village we love and we hope we can continue to do more for Winwick & Hermitage Green in the future.
“Thank you to all our sponsors and Winwick Leisure Centre for helping the event get off the ground and an even bigger thank you to everyone who came. We hope you had as much fun coming along as we did putting it on”

The volunteering group have set up a website www.winwick.org.uk to keep everyone up to date with future events. Anyone interested can sign up for regular e-newsletters or even volunteer some of their own time.
