SIX talented performing arts students from Warrington & Vale Royal College are currently in rehearsals, having been selected to perform live on stage as part of Liverpool’s celebrations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Thanks to the college’s brand-new Advanced Creative & Digital Skills (ACDS) Centre and close partnership with the Liverpool Empire Theatre, Level 3 Acting & Musical Theatre and HNC Theatre Practices students have been offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform songs from the renowned musical, Calamity Jane, in the build up to the world’s biggest song competition.
Whilst fans from all over the world make their way to Liverpool over the next few days, the college’s young thespians will be perfecting a small medley of some of their favourite tunes from the Western musical, including ‘The Deadwood Stage’, ‘It’s Harry I’m Planning to Marry’ and ‘Keep it Under Your Hat’. In the run up to a full college showcase of Calamity Jane in June, Saturday’s Eurovision performance will give students yet another unforgettable opportunity to showcase their creative talents and lead a roaring audience, who will no doubt be up on their feet.

During a break from rehearsals, the college caught up with its very own Eurovision stars, who are all excitedly anticipating this weekend’s performance. Ruby Darbyshire, Level 3 Acting & Musical Theatre student and former pupil of Golborne High School, said: “This is not an opportunity that comes by often, I’m super grateful to the college and the Liverpool Empire Theatre. I feel very lucky.” Meanwhile, HNC Theatre Practices student and former pupil of Penketh High School, Lucian Hinchliffe said: “It’s not quite registered yet that we’re performing on stage as part of Eurovision, I’m both excited and nervous as I’ve never had the chance to take part in something this big before!”
Students will be taking the stage at 2.05pm on Saturday 13th May at The Stage on the Park, located in Chavasse Park near Liverpool ONE. If you’re heading into Liverpool for Eurovision celebrations this weekend, be sure to drop by and show your support for some of Warrington’s rising stars.
