WARRINGTON Housing Association (WHA) has completed the build of an apartment block on the site of the former Penketh Tavern, Greystone Road.

Now named Edgewood Court in Penketh, the development consists of 30 one and two bed apartments for affordable rent and have been built to cater for people aged 55 and above.
This development has been made possible by substantial financial investment by Warrington Housing Association of more than £4million and this figure includes a significant grant funding contribution from Homes England – Homes England is the Government’s housing and regeneration agency.
The new development was officially opened by the Mayor of Warrington, Councillor Jean Flaherty, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Councillor Flaherty said on the day: “It’s great to see the redevelopment of a vacant overgrown site which will provide a much needed safe, secure and comfortable place to call home for local older people in an established thriving community which has great shopping, leisure and health service facilities on hand.”

New resident at the development, Maureen Woods, aged 79, added: “I can’t thank Warrington Housing Association enough for providing me with a lovely warm home near to my friends and family.”
The opening event was also attended by Penketh residents, councillors’, WHA staff and board members, Warrington Borough Council and Homes England.
Judith Winterbourne, Warrington Housing Association Board Chair, said “This is a high-quality development to reflect Warrington Housing Association’s continued commitment to substantial investment in the borough to make Warrington a great place to live. We are helping to address the housing needs of local older people as well as boosting local employment and supply opportunities.”

Warrington Housing Association procured the services of Kingsmead Construction Ltd to build the new homes with consultancy advice provided by Markhams Ltd, PRP Architects & Sutcliffe Ltd.
