Swing bridge to close for essential maintenance

THE A50 Knutsford Road swing bridge will be closed this Sunday, April 23, for essential maintenance.

The swing bridge will be closed from 6 am-6 pm for essential maintenance by Peel Holdings.

There have been a number of issues recently with swing bridges sticking in the open position, causing traffic chaos across the town.

Proposals by Peel to close the nearby Stockton heath swing bridge to carry out essential repairs and maintenance have been put on hold after Warrington Borough Council refused to foot the bill for road closures.
Local MP Andy Carter has urged both sides to sit down and talk to find a resolution to the problem.

To accommodate the work Warrington Borough Council has put a road closure notice in place for up to five days from Sunday, although the work is expected to be completed within one day.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, with effect from Sunday 23rd April 2023, for a period not exceeding 5 days, A50 Knutsford Road Swing Bridge, from its junction with Station Road to its junction with Thelwall New Road, will be closed to vehicular traffic and pedestrians.
The closure will be in place between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm as and when the signs are in place on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works.
The alternative route will be via Knutsford Road, Wilderspool Causeway, London Road, Grappenhall Road, Chester Road, Knutsford Road and vice versa.
The reason for the closure is to allow Peel Ports to carry out urgent maintenance works to the swing bridge.
