INSPIRED by her partially sighted grandson, Karin Snape is about to embark on a 1,000-mile walk from John O’Groats to Lands End to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Karin has lived in Warrington for nearly 25 years and during that time she has raised 26 puppies for Guide Dogs.

Now this Wednesday, April 12 she is settling off from John O’ Groats to Lands End to fundraise to name as many puppies as she can. These puppies will be named after inspirational people Karin knows or knew. Recently recovered from surgery she will also celebrate becoming a pensioner during the walk!

She said: “This idea was given to me during Covid when we were locked down. On an international family zoom call the length of the British Isles was mentioned, googled in Canada, where I was born, 864 miles was quoted. A little voice said out loud and was witnessed worldwide, ‘I want to walk that!’ Guide dogs were struggling to manage.
“I have raised 26 puppies and wanted to give something back. My grandson will need a guide dog, friends benefit from them; thinking big: I can do a big walk once I recovered from my hysterectomy. I become a pensioner whilst I am walking and tell people about guidedogs, how I earned my BEM and how rewarding volunteering is. The idea was born; the route created. Okay, 1000 miles to walk, a nice round number. Ending as a pensioner entitled to a bus pass and free prescriptions again and in time to attend a summer Scout Jamboree. Raising money for guide dogs. What could be better?”
