Heather Small in fine voice – with a little help from Beamont pupils

POP legend Heather Small was in fine voice when she performed to thousands at Manchester’s AO Arena – thanks in part to pupils from Warrington’s Beamont Primary School.

A group of 86 children from Years 4,5 and 6 took part in a mass choir of more than 8,700 schoolchildren at the huge concert venue, singing the rousing chorus to the former M People singer’s 2000 solo hit Proud and a medley of other tunes.

The concert was organised by Young Voices, an education programme designed to use music to develop skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, mindfulness, and innovation. The organisation has been organising concerts at venues around the country since 1997.

Karen Morris, headteacher of Beamont Primary School – part of Warrington Primary Academy Trust – said the children loved their performance experience.
She said: “It was amazing day. We left school at lunchtime for the afternoon rehearsal and during a break some of the children took part in a short workshop with The Beatbox Collective who were performers during the concert.
“The evening concert started at 7pm and by then the audience had filled the arena. We were so pleased to see some of our parents and carers there, and hear they had a great time too.
“It was a truly memorable experience for everyone and we’re already looking forward to next year!”
