Police issue new scam warning following cold calling for Battersea Dogs Home

POLICE in the Poplar & Hulme area of Warrington have issued a scam warning following reports of people cold calling for the Battersea Dogs Home.

Local officers have received further reports of more people knocking on doors in the Loweswater Close area, this time stating they were from Battersea Dogs Home. A resident did the correct thing and asked for ID which the male stated his friend had, which meant he could not show it there and then.

Police say Some of these recent door-to-door canvassers may be legitimate BUT make sure you ask the right questions before you give any money or any personal details over.

For awareness, between the 6th – 12th of February police have been made aware that North West Air Ambulance Lottery Canvassers will be in the WA2 area.

The canvassers are recruiting new members to join the weekly air ambulance lottery, or signing people up to make regular donations. They will NOT be collecting any cash or donations whatsoever. The new members they do take on will be asked to join up and agree to pay via direct debit.
The canvassers usually operate Mon – Fri between the hours of 10.00am and 8pm and occasionally at weekends.
AS ALWAYS THOUGH, ASK FOR ID AND RING THE COMPANY IF YOU ARE STILL UNSURE OTHERWISE SAY NO.

  1. Why are these canvassers allowed to knock on doors in the dark ….. it is currently dark by 6pm….I certainly would not be happy to have strangers knock on my elderly parents door either.
Had the Battersea Dogs Home ones about 2 weeks ago ( Cinnamon Brow)

  2. They knocked my door twice in one day. One in the morning. Different ones later when it was dark. I answered via my ring doorbell on both occasions and told them no. They shouldn’t be knocking doors in the dark this day and age.
