Adults with autism and additional needs to create a cookbook

WARRINGTON-based charity, Creating Adventures is releasing a Cookbook featuring tasty favourites from their members; adults with autism and additional needs.

The £10 cookbook will be ready to order in December 2022 just in time for Christmas, giving the local community a new gift idea for friends and family whilst raising funds. Orders can be placed on the official website www.creatingadventures.org.uk
In early 2021 the charity started a Recipe for Success Cookery session for their members over Zoom throughout the third COVID-19 lockdown. After the isolation of so many across the country, they decided to keep their members socialising, having fun and learning a new skill – the art of cooking!
Since then, the session has moved into a kitchen with their master chef members alongside qualified and experienced activity leader Barbara Freeman from Fresh Beginnings CIC. All funds raised from the sales of the cookbook will go straight back into these weekly sessions giving the adults more opportunities to develop, learn and expand their culinary journey in a safe, fun and educational environment. As part of the course there will be opportunities to explore different techniques such as knife skills, experiment with alternative cooking methods and create healthy, affordable meals to enjoy whilst living costs are rising.
Over the sessions the adults’ confidence have grown massively, their skills have become more refined and their passion for cooking their own food has flourished. The charity has been eager to showcase the new found talents of their Recipe for Success Chefs in a creative way giving their members the spotlight they deserve and a memoir to be proud of. The cookbook features 10 chefs, each of them choosing their favourite main meal and dessert to feature on their own personalised pages – carbonara and strawberry cheesecake to name a couple.
Greencore Warrington, ‘Where better food and better relationships make a better business and a better world for us all’, have sponsored the cookbook which will allow the charity to get the book printed giving the project an opportunity to raise sufficient funds for the future. Creating Adventures are excited to work with Greencore going forward creating a long term relationship that symbolises inclusion and diversity in the community.

Founder Jenny Allcock has said ‘We are absolutely thrilled to launch the Recipes for Success Cook book giving our members the opportunity to shine and showcase their culinary creativity and talents. Our cookery group members have been creating amazing meals each week and it only seemed right that we created a cook book. If James Martin and Mary Berry can sell a cook book, why can’t our Master Chefs be given the same opportunity? We are truly thankful for the support from Greencore which has made this book possible. Working with a local company who is as passionate about creating scrumptious food as we are, then it seemed to be a perfect match.’
The members, staff and volunteers that have worked hard on this project hope the community support, enjoy and share their new cookbook by ordering in December when it is available.
