Death of former Chair of Warrington Arts Council Margaret Tye

THE former Chair of Warrington Arts Council Margaret Tye has sadly died.

Margaret, who was also very active in the Soroptimists, was a librarian at the University of Chester Campus on Fearnhead Lane and used to run the Lewis Caroll Society, which was why she was offered the role when the Warrington Arts Council was formed.

Margaret retired as Chair of the Warrington Arts Council at a virtual meeting in July 2020, a role that she had enjoyed for fifty years since the Arts Council was first created.

Margaret passed away suddenly last Thursday.

Her funeral will be at Holy Trinity Church, Market Gate, Warrington on Wednesday 23rd November at 11:45am followed by a short service of committal at Walton Lea Crematorium at 12:40pm.

At her retirement, Margaret recalled plenty of stories from her lengthy career, including one of the low points, early in the life of the Arts Council, where members had to hold the meeting in one of the member’s cars!
