A WARRINGTON care worker has won a prestigious regional award in this year’s Great British Care Awards.
Jamie Ashton, clinical lead at the Three Bridges care home, Nook Lane, Latchford is now through to the final which will celebrate outstanding care achievements across the UK.
This will take place in March.
The award acknowledges the important role that specialist nurses working in the care sector have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people who they support.
They span 21 categories, representing all areas of the social care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care. Jamie’s dedication to his role at Three Bridges, has shone through this year, demonstrating his devotion to provision of exemplary end of life care to people at the home. His bespoke approach, ensures that families can come together to express end of life wishes – such as who they would like with them, their symptom management and additional requests like aromatherapy – to provide thoughtful and respectful care in their final days.
Jamie, who achieved “Highly Commended’” in the award category last year, said: “I’m literally over the moon and totally shocked as I didn’t realise I had been nominated this year. I’m so happy to have gone even further and I’m over joyed that I’ll be competing in the national finals as I’m always striving for more in my role.
“I had an interview with the judging panel, which was really nerve wracking. I think they really liked how I approach end of life care, bringing the family together and having a conversation using my specially devised questionnaire. I find this helps people to open up, as talking about death is often a bit taboo and can be uncomfortable for some. I’m always thinking how I can do more to help to make such a difficult event more comfortable for everyone.”
Jamie has been working at Three Bridges for six years, after qualifying as a nurse at Chester University and undertaking a post in Intensive Care for two years
Three Bridges is run by Orchard Care Homes and quality of care and invigorating best practice is at the forefront of their strategy. The group’s impressive record demonstrates the highest quality of care it provides its residents, with 91 per cent of its homes rated “Good”
