WARRINGTON Oktoberfest, organised by Warrington Rotary Club, is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year, its twenty-fifth year of raising money for local and international charities and community groups.
From humble beginnings of a few casks of real ale, to a festival of over 70 casks of various beers, a gin and fizz bar and live music over three days and raising over £300,000 over the years, it has become a regular feature in the town’s year.
The idea of a beer festival came from Cliff Houghton, a member of the club and also a master brewer at a local brewery.
Having just taken the Santa Sleigh out with other members on a dark night in heavy rain, and having collected only a small amount of money for charity, he suggested that a beer festival may have a better result.
The rest is history, with thousands of people attending over the years.
Many friendships have been created due to Oktoberfest, making it an annual meet-up.
This year Oktoberfest starts Thursday 13th October until Saturday 15th October.
