Warrington Youth Zone chess development

WARRINGTON Youth Zone will soon be launching its own chess scheme for members, thanks to local car dealership Lightcliffe Skoda.

The new scheme came to fruition when both parties produced a recent and successful major junior chess championship at the Skoda dealership’s showroom.

General Manager of Lightcliffe Skoda, John Sharp said: “The decision to run the junior chess tournament at the dealership was part of our support in the community initiative and very much an independent decision. Warrington Youth Zone’s decision to continue the initiative and set up their own scheme is fantastic news and more than we could ever have hoped for.
We wish WYZ all the very best with this new venture and Lightcliffe will continue to offer their support for this worthy cause.
Those wishing to learn how to play chess at Warrington Youth Zone, as well as experienced players, will soon be able to take advantage of this facility. The ultimate ambition is to have a regular Warrington chess club based at WYZ covering the full age range of visitors.”

Chief Executive of Warrington Youth Zone, Dave McNicholl, commented: “We are delighted to be able to provide our members who range in age from 7 – 19 or up to 25 for those with additional needs, the opportunity to try chess. With the support of John and the team from Lightcliffe Skoda, we will be able to provide many of our members the opportunity to participate in chess and learn new skills and tactics.”
