POPULAR lectures on the military history of RAF Burtonwood are set to return next Monday (Sept 12) and are free to attend via zoom.

Burtonwood airbase historian Aldon Ferguson, President of the Burtonwood Association will be starting the first of four autumn lectures covering the whole period of Burtonwood’s military life.

The first one, next Monday, at 7pm is ‘RAF Burtonwood Through the Eyes of the Base Publications.’

Aldon said: “I have dozens of different newsletters, newspapers, books, programmes and magazines produced on the base from 1940 until 1992. Together they contribute to an amazing detailed history of what was going on, on a day-to-day basis.

The four lectures are as follows:

The US Army at Burtonwood. 1967 – 1993

RAF Burtonwood in the 1950’s
Burtonwood expanded massively in the 50s with a runway extension, new control tower and Operations building, the construction of Header House and extensive base housing. See how this base hummed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
