POLICE and firefighters were called out at Warrington last night after members of the public reported a large tree being set alight by a group of youths.
The incident was in Fowley Common Lane, Glazebury yesterday shortly after 5:30 pm and proved particularly challenging and time-consuming because of difficulties in accessing narrow tracks to reach the scene.
Firefighters from Birchwood were at the scene for nearly two hours.
They used a main jet to tackle the blaze – but considerable damage was caused to the tree.
Anyone with information that might assist police with their enquiries is asked to call 101.
