Disappointing start for Warrington Rylands

WARRINGTON Rylands first game in the NPL Premier Division ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat as they were blown away in the opening fifteen minutes by a clinical Gainsborough Trinity side.

The visitors took the lead within ten seconds of the kick-off at a sweltering Gorsey Lane whilst most of the 535-strong crowd were still taking their places.

Breaking down the left wing, Tom Cursons delivered a low cross which evaded everyone until it found Jack Dyche at the far post with the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.
Rylands hit back with Ryan Brooke firing a shot from the edge of the area inches over the bar, while Trinity goalkeeper Matt Yates spectacularly tipped a long range Kane Drummond shot over the bar. A goal mouth scramble from the resultant corner saw Rylands go close to bundling the ball into the net but the visitors managed to smuggle the ball clear for another corner.
Trinity double their advantage in the 14th minute when captain Andrew Wright converted from the penalty spot after an awkwardly bouncing ball was inexplicably slapped away by Rylands defender Adam Buxton.
Minutes before half time Buxton did well to block a goal-bound shot from Wright, and from the resultant corner a Trinity header was cleared off the Rylands goal line.
The last action of the first half saw Callum Dolan fire a free kick wide of the Trinity goal from the edge of the area after Ryan Brooke had been felled.

With Rylands desperately needing to score first in the second half, the visitors notched their third goal in the 50th minute. Ethan Bojang’s dangerous free kick found Clayton Donaldson unmarked in the Rylands area. He made no mistake in guiding the ball into the Rylands net.
Rylands went close to snatching a late consolation goal but Dolan, Andy Scarisbrick and James Nield were all just off target as Trinity saw the game out to condemn Rylands to an opening day league defeat for the first time in their semi-professional career.
