WARRINGTON Town have appointed Josh Amis as captain and signed highly-rated Preston youngster Josh Seary.

Fans’ favourite Amis takes over the armband from Mark Roberts, who retired at the end of last season.

The striker is entering his fifth season with the club, and will be supported by a leadership group made up of Sean Williams, Jay Harris and Bohan Dixon.

Amis said: “It’s my fifth season now so I’ve been here a while and it’s a good club to be at. Obviously the coaching staff, Toby and everyone around the club make it a nice place to be, and that’s what keeps me coming back each year.

“Every single person that’s here this season wants to be here, most of us from last season have stayed and it’s because we want to be involved in driving the club forward.”

Meanwhile, young right-back Seary has moved to Cantilever Park on an initial three-month loan.

Seary, 17, was identified as a target earlier this year and has been in pre-season training with the Yellows for a few weeks already, featuring in two of their pre-season games.

Yellows boss Mark Beesley said: “Josh is a player we watched midway through last season and there was talk of him coming then, but maybe he was a little bit young and needed another six months.

“He’s highly thought of at Preston, and with the success Lewis had here, we’ve built up a good relationship with Preston and they were happy to send one of their hottest prospects out.

“It’s important that lads come here for the right reasons. The environment we create here means players want to do well, and we’ve said to Josh he can use us to do well and get towards the Preston first team.”

Seary follows in the footsteps of Lewis Coulton, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Warrington Town and has since been given a first team squad number at the EFL Championship club.

Warrington Town kick off their latest Northern Premier League campaign at home to Morpeth Town on Saturday (3pm).
