Celebrating Ukrainian Independence Day in Warrington

UKRAINIAN families and their hosts in the Warrington area will celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24.

A special event is being organised at the Ukrainian Family Hub at Culcheth Sports Club in Charnock Road, Culcheth with more than 200 people attending from Warrington, Lymm, St Helens, Altrincham and beyond.

A Ukrainian band will perform and many of the Ukrainian guests will be dressed traditionally and there will be lots of entertainment arranged for the children
The hub is run by volunteers and was set up in May to create a safe space for Ukrainian families to meet, develop friendships and develop a local community, a place to celebrate their traditions and culture.
Since May it has grown hugely and the demand has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The hub itself runs every Wednesday evening, providing English lessons for adults and children and every Sunday 11-2pm for a social and resource centre.
It provides clothing, advice, toiletries, school shoes and many other things to the local Ukrainian community. Several trips have also been organised to Gulliver’s World, Chester Zoo, The Lake District, etc.
Hub chairman Kate McCarthy-Booth said: “We are constantly looking for more hosts in the area and volunteers,
“There is still very much a need for support for the people of Ukraine. Hosting can be very fulfilling and we really need more hosts for many of the families of the guests we already have in the area.”
