Mindless hooligans blamed for starting grass fires

MINDLESS hooligans have been deliberately starting grass fires in the Warrington area – despite the dangers posed by the long dry spell.

Firefighters went to Radley Lane, Warrington yesterday to deal with a grass fire which appeared to have been started deliberately.

The fire covered an area of approximately 50 square metres and was put out by the crew using a water backpack and beaters. Police were informed due to the suspicious circumstances around the blaze.
Another grass fire was started deliberately in Grasmere Avenue, Orford.
Firefighters used a water backpacks to extinguish the flames.

A skip fire was reported on the drive of a property in Manchester Road, Warrington. A fire crew from Birchwood dealt with the incident, using a hose reel jeet to extinguish the fire which fortunately did not spread beyond the skip.
