Borough council paying tribute to England’s Lionesses

WARRINGTON Borough Council is paying tribute to England’s Lionesses, following their historic victory at Euro 2022.
The England national flag was raised at Warrington Town Hall today in honour of the heroic women’s football team, who clinched their first major tournament on Sunday with a thrilling 2-1 win over Germany at Wembley.
Their victory, which was watched by almost 90,000 people inside the stadium and more than 17m people on TV, has brought huge celebrations across the country and Warrington is flying the flag as a symbol of the town’s pride in the team’s achievement.
The council’s cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “The monumental achievement of the Lionesses was a hugely significant day in our nation’s sporting history, and I’m delighted that the Town Hall is flying the England flag in honour of their victory.
“The success of the team will have a hugely positive impact on women’s football in this country and will inspire the next generation of female footballers.
“It was an incredible display of courage, togetherness and fighting spirit to bring the European trophy home and everyone in Warrington – and across the country – is very proud of them.”
