FIREFIGHTERS were called out to deal with a blaze involving an area of vegetation covering 50 metres by 50 metres off Thelwall Lane, Westy, Warrington.

The fire – close to the Manchester Ship Canal – was tinder dry as a result of the heatwave and could have spread to cover a wider area.

A fire crew from Lymm went to the schene and used an extended hose reel jet to tackle the outbreak, the crew setting up a water shuttle.
Once the fire was out, a hose reel jet was used to dampen down the surrounding area.
The cause of the outbreak has not been revealed.
