Firefighters called out twice to extinguish rubbish fire and campfire

FIRE crews from Penketh were called out twice last night to tackle a rubbish fire on a car park and to put out a campfire at risk of spreading.

At 9:50 pm firefighters used a hose reel water jet to put out a well-developed rubbish fire, thought to have been started deliberately as a controlled burn, but left unattended on a car park off Widnes Road, Penketh.

Earlier in the evening, shortly after 9 pm, a water backpack extinguisher was used to put out a small campfire on Barrow Hall Lane, Great Sankey, owing to the risk of it spreading.
