Celebrating 10 years of MacIntyre’s Shared Lives

CARERS from MacIntyre came together to celebrate 10 years of MacIntyre Shared Lives in Warrington.

Shared Lives carers open their hearts and homes to people who need a place to live. It’s social care with a difference, where carers share their homes, friends and networks with people they support.

Shared Lives offers opportunities for reciprocity and relationships, where people can feel part of something. The lyrics of Rina Sawayana and Elton John’s song “Chosen Family” have real parallels with Shared Lives. They match people who “Don’t share genes or a last name”, who take a chance and find that you “Don’t have to be related to relate”.

MacIntyre Shared Lives carers can offer someone a home, or somewhere to come for short breaks and holidays or during the day. In Warrington there are 50 people who do this amazing work and the event celebrated them and the people they support.

Shared Lives Area Manager Kathryn Yates who set up the scheme in 2012 said; “Friendships and purpose, giving and getting. It’s not taken the pandemic or our ten-year anniversary to help us appreciate our Shared Lives carers or know what a brilliant model Shared Lives offers; but it’s helped us to take the time to appreciate the amazing work our carers do.”

“The 10-year party recognised the achievements of people, particularly in the last two years to stay positive, be creative and keep going. For including people as part of your chosen family”

“Huge shout out you to the amazing bar staff and chefs at Newton’s Warrington, Mitch Lears DJ and Tina on the saxophone for making it such a great night. Also to our local businesses and organisations for supporting the raffle.

“Thank you to our Shared Lives carers and the people we support. You inspire us every day.”
