WARRINGTON-based Lightcliffe Skoda has come up with a quirky and imaginative idea to transform their Winwick Road car showroom into a major junior chess championship venue.
John Sharp, General Manager of Lightcliffe Skoda said: “The Lightcliffe Skoda, Junior Rapid Play Chess Championship on Saturday 2nd July is a direct result of our ‘business in the community’ philosophy.
“We created the internal role of ‘Community Initiative Champion’ as a way to seek out more imaginative ways to reach out into the local community. Our chess event is proof of this doctrine. It is being developed with cooperation from the Warrington and District Chess League and expected to attract junior chess players from around the region. Even though our showroom will be dedicated to the event during the day, it will still be ‘business as usual’ on site with our helpful sales force eagerly on hand for any enquiries.”
John addded: “We are also currently in dialogue with Warrington Youth Zone to jointly develop more community-driven initiatives at their new state-of-the-art Dallam Lane facility. W.Y.Z. have offered one year’s free membership to participants in our event in appreciation of this synergy between both parties.”
