Detectives launch appeal after man threatened with axe and attacked and robbed by three men

DETECTIVES have launched a public appeal for information following a robbery near Longshaw Street, Warrington, when a man was threatened with an axe and attacked and robbed by three men.

Officers have now increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance following the frightening ordeal.

The incident took place on Tuesday 7 June at around 7pm, when a 34-year-old man from Warrington was walking to a shop when he was approached and spoken to by three men near to Longshaw Street.

He was then struck by two of the men. The third man threatened him and is believed to be in possession of an axe. They took cash before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and was taken to Warrington hospital for further checks.

The three men are described as being white, in their early twenties and seen wearing dark clothing with face coverings. Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with Cheshire Police.

Detective Sergeant Victoria Tait said: “This was understandably a frightening ordeal for the victim but luckily he only sustained minor injuries.
“I understand this incident may cause alarm in the local community, but I would like to reassure people that we are doing everything we can to find who is responsible.
“There are officers in the local area who are conducting further enquiries and as part of this, I am appealing to anyone who may have information to please come forward.
“We are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage from the area around the time of the incident to get in touch. The same goes to anyone who knows who is responsible.”
