FRIENDS of former amateur Rugby League player Trevor Waiting from Warrington rallied to help raise £7,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

Trevor has had MND for nearly 5 years and in his younger years played Rugby League for Crosfields for many years.

Two of his life-long friends who played rugby with Trevor, Tony Timmins and John Mather recently arranged a fundraising event to raise valuable funding to support the fight against MND.

The event at Grappenhall Cricket Club brought together over 120 people including Trevor, his wife Irene, daughter Nicola and son Mark with lots of their family as well as lots of Trevor’s rugby mates over the years from amateur clubs across Warrington – Crosfields, Rylands, Latchford and Woolston.

All those at the event shared a meal, lots of laughs with two brilliant comedians – Leslie Gibson, “the man of a thousand voices” (finalist in Britain’s Got Talent 2011) and Gary Marshall, entertaining everyone who attended.

Ray Fisher did a fantastic job along with Tony and John in arranging brilliant auction and raffle prizes. Ray’s talent as MC for the afternoon along with his skills as an entertaining auctioneer ensured that over £7,000 was raised which will be donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association to support their fight against MND.

Irene, Trevor’s wife said: “What John and Tony did for Trevor and the MND Association was just amazing. We all had a fantastic afternoon amongst friends and raised an unbelievable amount of money. Everyone was so generous and Trevor and I can’t thank John, Tony, Ray and everyone who was there enough for what they did and their generosity.”
