Latchford back to winning ways after poor start

LATCHFORD shrugged off a poor start to get back to winning ways when they defeated a tough Thatto Heath outfit 18-28 away from home.
A slow start saw Albion 12-0 down after only 10 minutes when the hosts blitzed them with two quick fire converted tries.
Albion, to their credit, were quick to respond, and opened their account on 15 minutes when Danny Brown (pictured) made a break and found prop Ryan Skidmore in support to cross. Rob Marsh added the extras.
Shortly after, the visitors were over again. This time scrum half Matty Ellis spotted the home defence moving up quickly, and produced a clever kick which Ben Harper collected and scored in the corner.
A further converted try by Thatto in the closing minutes of the half saw them hold the lead 18-10 at the interval.
Latchford made a much stronger start to the second half, and reduced the deficit to two points on 51 minutes.
Again Danny Brown was pivotal, and it is was his offload in the tackle that allowed fellow forward Chris Brown the opportunity to barge his way over the hosts’ line. This time Matty Rudd added the extras.
On the hour mark, Albion took the lead for the first time in the game. Following some good yardage made from the visitors’ pack, Ellis took on the home defence. When it appeared he was tackled, he managed to twist and plant the ball down over the Thatto line, again Rudd converting.
With time running out, Thatto chanced their arm when attempting a short drop out, however the ball fell perfectly to Albion’s Danny Brown who crossed to ensure they returned home with the points. Rudd added the conversion with the final kick of the game.
Albion now have a week off, before travelling to Haresfinch on June 4 in the NWML Challenge Cup Quarter final.
