OLYMIC medallist Danny Purvis put children at Warrington’s Alderman Bolton Primary School children through their paces in a fundraising circuit training event at the school.
Danny, who won a gymnastics bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, visited the Latchford school as an ambassador of Sports for Champions, a not-for-profit organisation that works with world-class athletes to inspire children to embrace healthy, active lifestyles.
Children from nursery to Year 6 came into school in their sportswear and spent the morning in a frenzy of high energy activity which included press-ups, star jumps and leg drives.
Their efforts raised £667 through sponsorship. The money will go to the school and also help Sports for Champions’ work with youngsters around the country.
Acting assistant headteacher, Kate McCormack said: “The children had a wonderful time and loved meeting Danny. He showed them that hard work and determination leads to success and inspired them to never give up on their goals. They got to see his Olympic media and much to their delight he also demonstrated a back flip off a bench and walking on his hands!”
