Huge success for Warrington & Vale Royal College student

WARRINGTON & Vale Royal College student Daw Ryan has bagged a clutch of qualifications -while working for the NHS in the midst of the pandemic.

Despite not speaking English as her first language, Daw has completed a level 2 apprenticeship in customer service and achieved a functional skills qualification in both maths and English.

Daw had only been on her course for a few months when Covid hit and she became a frontline worker delivering medication to the patients at Warrington and Halton NHS Trust. Under the circumstances, the college’s apprenticeship coach, Jill Murphy, was unable to visit Daw at her place of work so she quickly had to adapt to online communication.

Balancing work and study at the same time is always challenging, but to do this during a global crisis is even more impressive. Daw worked extremely hard throughout her entire course and as well as achieving her customer service qualification, she also gained a functional skills qualification in maths and English. Considering that English is Daw’s second language, this is both a fantastic achievement for her and a testament to the help and support provided by her tutors at Warrington and Vale Royal College.

Jill Murphy said: “It has certainly not been easy for Daw, but she has persevered and kept going. Daw has always been committed, motivated and engaged, completing everything with full effort and enthusiasm. I am absolutely delighted for her.”

The college is extremely proud of Daw and is inspired by her determination. Daw said: “I am overwhelmed, thank you to Warrington and Vale Royal College and the NHS for helping me to achieve my level 2 qualification.”

The college also wish to extend a big thank you to the pharmacy department at Warrington and Halton NHS Trust for supporting Daw throughout her studies, and of course to Jill Murphy for her unwavering guidance and encouragement.
