LATCHFORD fell to a 14-32 defeat against Blackbrook in a game where the score line was a harsh reflection of a close encounter.
The hosts got off to the perfect start, and opened the scoring on five minutes.
A long pass from Full back Matty Rudd (pictured) found its way to Recce Hughes, who outpaced his opposite winger before cutting inside the oncoming defence to score, Rudd adding the conversion to give Albion an early 6-0 advantage.
The visitors soon responded and hit the hosts with two quickfire tries to take the lead 6-10 after 20 minutes, before a further purple patch stunned the hosts, with Brook extending their lead to 6-20.
On the stoke of half-time Albion were awarded a penalty, which Rudd duly kicked, to leave the half time score Latchford 8 Blackbrook 20
The second started as an even contest, with both defences repelling any attacks, and the first points did not arrive until the hour mark, and it came the way of the hosts.
Following good field position made by the Albion forwards, scrum half Matty Ellis cleverly dummied his way over the oppositions line. Rudd’s conversion bringing the score to 14-20. Albion had managed to put themselves in a position to try to get a result from the game.
With time running out, and Albion on the attack, the hosts coughed up possession, of which the visitors took full advantage to cross for a converted try, and ultimately seal the victory.
A further try on full-time was harsh on Albion and gave the scoreline a tough look to it , in a game where the result was in the balance until the closing minutes.
Despite defeat, coach Martyn Ellis could still take some positives from the game. With hooker Jack Phillips missing through injury, Charlie Groarke stepped up and played the full 80 minutes, registering an impressive 40 tackles during the game.
